DJ, producer, and remixer Yvonne Turner is one of the few women who had a decisive influence on New York's early house scene. Her dub mix of Colonel Abraham's “Music is the Answer” is considered one of the first house tracks ever, alongside Jesse Saunders' “On and On” (both 1984). Born in Harlem, she began DJing regularly in Brooklyn in the late 70s, learning what good music means at the legendary Loft. She went on to release classics such as “Set Fire to Me” and remixes for Whitney Houston, Lenny Kravitz, Yazz and Lisa Stansfield. After several years as a teacher, she is now back in the studio to retell the history of house music — and how many women have contributed to it. Antal Heitlager founded Rush Hour with Christiaan Macdonald in the late 90s — initially a record store in Amsterdam, now a benchmark label, distributor and party crew. As a DJ, Antal combines Chicago house, Detroit techno, Brazilian funk, African soca, jazz and soul with a brilliant sense of storytelling. As always, Lakuti and Tama Sumo will open and close their club night.
