DJ Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy, who grew up in New York and now lives in London, is seen as the legitimate heir to David Mancuso and his legendary Loft concept. Her approach is based on a deep reverence for the fidelity and narrative power of a DJ set that dissolves the boundaries between disco, jazz-funk, house and psychedelic rock. Whether through her early radio engagements at WNYU, her “Cosmodelica” remixes (e.g. for The Cure) or her Balearic Breakfast compilations, there is always a certain composure that succeeds without flashy effects. Murphy does not curate music for quick consumption, but as a vocation. In her sets, she dispenses with digital tools, instead relying on the organic interplay of rhythm and emotion, which has earned her a reputation as one of the most respected selectors of the present day. She is heard far too rarely in Berlin, and so we are particularly pleased that she's now gracing Lakuti and Tama Sumo's club night.
